Wharton Properties files demo plans in Garment District ahead of 363-key hotel plans
Jeff Sutton’s Wharton Properties, on June 3, filed two permit applications for the demolition of buildings at 21 West 34th Street and 25 West 34th Street in the Garment District. Andrew Lester, senior vice president of construction at Wharton Properties, filed the plans. The short-term rental firm Sonder signed a 15-lease with Wharton, “paying under $300 million” according to a Commercial Observer report last year.
In April 2021, the developer filed a permit application for construction of a 363-key, 176,375-square-foot commercial hotel building at 25 West 34th Street.
Per the plans, the ground floor of the building will have retail space and a hotel lobby. Floors two and three will each have five rooms per floor, floors four through 21 will each have 18 rooms per floor, the 22nd floor will have 15 rooms, and the 23rd floor will have 14 rooms. There will be an amenity terrace on the roof.
The plans call for the demolition of a two-story building at 21 West 34th Street.
The project is described in the filings as: demolition of existing building.
